Eco-Chic: A Recycled Runway
A night of community fashion & sustainable design by AAFCS & Phi U
-
Any previously constructed garment or accessory is accepted, as are multiple entries from the same designer.
-
The emphasis of the show is sustainability and recycling, so garments/accessories should also have an emphasis on sustainability and recycling.
-
All garments must be appropriate for an all-ages-audience.
-
There is no submission fee; this is a free event. However, donations to the Beading for Breast Cancer program are happily accepted.
-
Submission forms (intent to showcase an item) are due by March 14, 2014. Late entries will NOT be accepted.
-
Garments must be delivered by April 4th, 2014 to a site still yet to be determined. Late entries will NOT be accepted.
-
Designers and models are to arrive to the Visual Arts building 2 hours before the show
-
Designers are required to take the garment home after the show.
-
Designers also must find their own models to showcase their pieces on the runway and ensure those models arrive at the venue on time to prepare for the show.
-
Designers may choose to sell their items after the fashion show and all proceeds from selling the items will go to the Beading for Breast Cancer program.
-
There are 5 categories to enter a submission under: Upcycled, Exhibition Pieces, Thrift Store Style, Eco- Friendly Fabrics, Wearable Art.
-
There will be a winner in each category, decided by a panel of judges prior to the show, as well as a People’s Choice Award, decided during the show.
-
Winners of the categories will be based on both the sustainability/recycled aspects of the submission, overall construction, and aesthetic appearance.
Judging Criteria
-
Upcycled Clothing
-
These submissions are to be constructed with at least 50% re-purposed materials.
-
For example, using a t-shirt and sewing it to an older skirt to make a new dress.
-
While entries of this category are similar to the Thrift Store Style, garment materials do not have to be completely from a thrift store; it just cannot have elements that were purchased, brand new, specifically for the project.
-
-
Exhibition Pieces
-
These submissions are non-garment pieces, such as purses, jewelry, or accessories.
-
Thrift Store Style
-
These submissions are to be made from entirely thrifted items.
-
Outfits styled by all thrifted items (excluding footwear)
-
The thrift store items may be re-fashioned into a new, re-purposed garment, but all materials must be from the thrift store.
-
Eco-Friendly Fabrics
-
Garment must contain at least 50% recycled, organic, or sustainable fibers or fabrics.
-
